Cant add Windows Live Messenger Contacts to Chat?

I have waited and tried on different days at different times. It seems no matter what I do, I just cant add those users to my list. Any suggestions?

maybe you have an old version of messenger, i have yahoo messenger 9.0 beta and it works, so Upgrade! hope i helped
