Why does my name appear as a contact on line and in a chat tab? How can I change the way my name appears there

I had received a message (in a chat, I think) saying one of my contacts wanted permission to see me in a chat, or something to that effect. So I allowed it, then my name appeared in a tab. I want to change the way my name appears.

click on Messenger then My Contact Details. Change your name there and it will change the way it appears in chat.
