How do I take my actual name off the messenger screen?

Second attempt on changing to a screen name on messenger and get my e mail address off my messenger ..help ?

• I have read and tried about going to my contacts and putting in a screen name to remove my e mail address from my messenger ...but my computer will not allow the change , as hit save on the window, log off, back on again it just goes back to e mail address it will not allow me to change it. is there something else I need to do to allow me to edit the contact info ...and get a screen name ..? I can not imagine why this is so difficult. Do I have to dump my whole messenger and start over or it something else where that I need to change in the programing of the computer? thank you for your help.

  Click on Messenger at the top of your Contact List, then click on My Contact Details, take out what you want, and put in what you want. HIT SAVE AND CLOSE BE SAFE Cheri PS. If your contacts want to change your ID they need to Right click on your ID and change it from there. Doing what I just told you to do, will only be effective to the people you add AFTER you change it.
