How do I clear the search field right above my friends list in Yahoo Messenger?

  if you are meaning the list that expands, (directly above your friends list) where it has the rotating text "Type a Yahoo! ID" or "Type an email address" or "Type a mobile number" then try the following if you dont wish to remove all your cache contents, some of which are quite helpful.... the only way I know of is clearing the entire list (rather than individual ID's listed) is to pop into your Yahoo! Cache directory located at.... C:\Program Files\Yahoo!\Messenger\Cache it's going to depend on if you have logged in using one default ID or mutilple ID's, if one then there will be one file, if multiple, then there will be multiple files... one for each ID you have used the file you need to delete will look something like... Ex4PoBU5oaXdyQjk0tQ_FQ-- .conversationhistory.xml the... "Ex4PoBU5oaXdyQjk0tQ_FQ" part will be completely different though, so just look for any / all files ending with... conversationhistory.xml right click and delete each file, or if you're worried about deleting just rename the extension instead e.g {name}.conversationhistory.xml would become {name}.conversationhistory.OLD when you sign out of yahoo messenger a new conversationhistory.xml file will be created :) btw... the file name....
