How do I stop my computer making a "drip" sound when I receive an instant message?

I can turn sounds off altogether, but I'd rather have sounds. Even though my IM is set to "Chime up" as my alert sound, this mysterious "Drip" sound keeps happening instead. It's phenomenally annoying.

control panel - sounds - instant messenger, then change sound for new message.
