How do I add friends on YM?

My parents control my YM contacts list??Help?

  • I only have like 17 contacts in my YM list which are relatives.If i add some friend or mate from school my parents don't know,they just start with blah blah blah..who's this? and the stranger discussion.And they always check contact's photos:oh look what photo has Aunt Anna or cousin Elisabeth.Which is annoying when people are around.Last summer i was with my bestfriend talking with a girl on YM,Inviting her to our party and then my dad tells me i shouldn't talk with strangers.I'm never gonna have friends like this,it's very annoying when my mom:why don't you invite your friends?And i do not have friends..because i'm forced to ignore 'strangers'.it really hurts me that they don't trust me..i always get good grades and i don't go anywhere,just stay at home but..i want to have friends too...

    it is normal to a parent,that's is just how they love you so much, they only want to protect you in any reason, By the way I'm also a mother that care my daughter very much but they are free in making friend . only I want them that they will be open to me an share what ever.Just talk to your mom and explain who are those people on your contact,and I'm sure they understand you

Wow, your parents are one of the most protective that I ever heard of. You need to talk to them in private and make them aware that you need to have a social life that they cannot interfere with and that the people you add is truly your friends and not some complete stranger.

Tell them that this is the modern day version of having a "Pen Pal" like when they were kids. Assure them that you never send pics or tell them where you live (except maybe the state).
