How do I save friends on Yahoo messenger?

Will my messages save in the archive if I am using Yahoo Mail, not messenger?

There was one time when my computer was broken so I just chatted on another computer that didn't have Yahoo Messenger, so I just used Mail. I IM'ed on my friends on there instead of mailing. There's a feature like that there, right? Well I hope that the messages got saved on my friend's archives (theirs are set to "save all my messages" but will it count if I am using Yahoo Mail, but they're still using Messenger? I hope it will save on theirs!! If you don't understand my question, please ask me to restate it.

Yes, one is able to chat in Yahoo! Mail. No archives there. Only in Yahoo! Messenger are Archives saved. If the friend was chatting with you in Their Yahoo! Messenger and their Preferences in Archives are set to "Yes, save all of my messages", the Archives are viewable. Best of Luck to You.
