    if archiving was enabled prior to the conversation/s... Messenger > Preferences select the category Archive (left hand side) make sure Yes, save all my message had been selected if its not enabled you wont be able to get prior conversations, but you can enable it for future sessions, simply select "Yes, save all my messages" hit Apply, hit OK if it was enabled, you can open all the archives within yahoo messenger itself (when you are signed in)... via Contacts > Message archive or right click a username in your friends list and select Message Archive

with Yahoo. you can turn on the message archive and that will save all your IM's

Only if you chose the "save conversations" option. You can go in to your settings and change it so it will save them. Then you can click on the tab for view previous converstions up in the menu bar.
