How do you choose alternate yahoo id?

When chatting my main yahoo ID comes up in the IM box...even when i choose an alias from the drop down box?

  The reason..... you probably signed up for a Yahoo! Messenger Account using your First/Last name. They will show in the IM window when you send an IM or receive an IM from another user, unless you change it. That does not mean the other person you are chatting with can see your First/Last name. Your Contact Details must be sent to them. If you have not sent your Contact Details to the other person you are IMing with, they will see your Yahoo! Account Name (or Nickname) and not your First/Last Name. If you have previously sent your Contact Details to the other person, they will need to delete you from their list and re-add you in order for you name to change on their list. If you have multiple names on one account (Main Account Name and Profile Names/Alias Names), the My Contact Details will always be from your Main Account Name. When you IM another Yahoo! user the IM box has a drop down menu. You can choose which name you would like to use to send the message. The name in the IM box will be the name you have in My Contact Details for the Main Account Name regardless of which name in the drop down box you choose. If you choose not to have any information in the My Contact Details section, your Main Account Name is what will appear in your IM box, regardless if you use the Main or Profile/Alias. The other person will see whichever name you IM'd them from (check the the top of the IM box, you will see the other user's name and your name with a dash in-between).
