How do I change the name in my IM chat box from my full name to myscreen name?

when i type messages in my IM chat box, my full name appears and I am trying to figure out how to change it to my screen name for privacy purposes.

This answer applies to version 7 (yahoo messenger with voice). In your Yahoo messenger buddy list at the top click on "messenger" then from the menu list on the left click on "appearance". At the bottom of the window there is the option for showing your name or for showing your Yahoo ID.
