Yahoo Messenger problem...help?

I deleted imported contacts from Yahoo! Mail to Yahoo! Messenger. Now I can't import contacts again?

  • Hey, guys. A couple of days ago I started a new Yahoo! Mail account, just for chatting. Then I imported my contacts into Yahoo! Mail from Facebook and it went flawlessly. The next step I took was to download Yahoo! Messenger, after that I went to the import contacts wizard inside Yahoo! Messenger and import all my Yahoo! based contacts. That went flawlessly also. But went people started accepted my invitations, a box would appear that it wanted to merge the Yahoo! Messenger contacts with my Yahoo! Mail. I don't know what I did, but I know I messed up my whole Address Book. So I decide to delete every single contact and import them from Facebook into Yahoo! Mail again, which worked the second time. But when the time came to import them into Yahoo! Messenger I couldn't. I got the error 999. I've tried with a different account and it works, so it's certainly account based, not software based. Also I should tell you that, although I deleted everybody in my Address Book and my Messenger list, I see people login in out. Really weird. What do you think I should do? I've already tried: - reinstalling Yahoo! Messenger; - clearing the cache; - resetting my browser. None of them worked. I'm open to suggestions, but anything other than that. P.S. No offense, but let's keep it smart, no stupid stuff.

  • Answer:

What you may not have realized is that Messenger holds both your Address Book contacts and your Messenger contacts, both. Open Messenger and click on the arrow between Contacts and Y!Updates, then click Show Address Book Contacts and/or Show Offline Contacts both, or one or the other. The difference being, of course, that your Offline Contacts are those people on your Messenger List and the Address Book are people in your Yahoo network in general. So, click that arrow and you'll find your contacts. Either one, or both of which can be showed in your Messenger window depending on which box you check off.
