How can I back up my archived Yahoo messenger messages?

If Yahoo Messenger archives are on my PC and not the server, can others using my PC see my archived messages?

  • I save and archive my private messenger conversations. Can another family member who does NOT know my password view them? I can't find them on my hard drive. (where would I go in my PC to delete them off of it?)

  • Answer:

    archives are encrypted and stored as .dat files at... C:\ Program Files\ Yahoo!\ Messenger\ Profiles \username \ Archive\ Messages in theory, no, another ppl that share your computer who do not have access to your password cannot access your archives... unless they have an archive viewer or recovery program, at which point they can drag and drop your dat files across to access them :)

Yes, because they are in a folder somewhere saved in your computer. Depends on where exactly you put them, usually would be somewhere in your Yahoo folder. Or just go in your Yahoo messenger, under contacts, message archive and delete them that way
