Why is my Yahoo not working?

Does anyone know why the alerts & Sounds quit working on Yahoo Messenger 8.0?

  • Can anyone answer a simple question pertaining to Yahoo Messenger 8.0 My Question is this...Does anyone out there know why the Alerts & Sounds quit working in Yahoo Messenger 8.0 I can revert back to Yahoo Messenger 7.5 and they work fine,But the moment I go to 8.0 with windows live they immediately quit working and all I have is this one little sound that sounds so sick its enough to annoy even the most pleasant of folks...I went to MSN Messenger 8.0 and that's when all the trouble started and now I cannot figure it out...I have gone back to both MSN Messenger 7.5 & Yahoo Messenger 7.5 and all sounds work...If anyone can help with my question please do so...I want to go too Yahoo Messenger 8.0 but it seems as if I cannot...I have Windows XP and I run Internet Explorer 7.0 I also run Mcafee Virus Security Suite so I wonder if that maybe the problem as well...Anyway Please contact me if you have an answer... Thank You.....

    Yahoo! updated the sounds in 8.0 (but they didn't change the names of the sound files). They are the same sounds used in Mac Messenger. If you want the old ones you can get them from here: http://www.helpbytes.co.uk/owavs.zip FWIW, I like the newer sounds. They're cleaner and more modern.

It is some kind of a glitch in 8.0. It is the only trouble I have had with it so far. If you have 7.5 go to C:\Program files\Yahoo\messenger\media and copy all the .wav file to another directory. Reinstall 8.0 and copy the .wav files back to that directory. Since the file names will be the same choose "overwrite" then the sounds will work.
