How do I get a new screen name for yahoo messenger?

When i log onto yahoo messenger how do i get my screen name to pop up instead of my real name?

  Yes - you can change this setting. How you see names and id's on your messenger is not how other people see them unless they have set it that way. If you want to see Id's only on Your messenger - go to preferences, then to appearance - at the bottom you can choose names/nicknames or ID's. But this is only how YOU will see your list. If you want to change how everyone else see's YOU - go into your your yahoo email - go to My Account and there you need to change your name. For example: my email is vancruiser so I used van as my first name and cruiser for my last name. Then when I email or someone looks at my profile, they will not know my real name unless I tell them.
