What does "idle status" mean on Yahoo! Messenger?

When I am on Messenger and talking to my friend, sometimes it says "Idle." What does it really mean because I know idle means lazy, and how do you make it say "Idle?"

Answer:
"Idle" means that the person has not been using messenger for a long time or have not ype or use the mouse. So it will just go into an 'idle mode' to show others that they are busy doing something else. MJ
