How do you change your id name?

My real name, first and last appear in the IM box when sent. How do I change to have my user ID appear in IM.

  • When I IM someone, my real first and last name appear in the IM box on my screen and my user ID shows in the IM box to the person I sent it to. This is okay. But when I accept someone into my 'friends" list and then send an IM, my real first and last name appear in the IM box to the person I sent it to. How to I change this so that the person I send it to only sees my user ID name and not my real name??

    Go to your preferences and change the setting that says what you want to appear in the messenger window.

I notice that when I go to add someone as a friend, one of the screens in the "wizard" asks how I want to identify myself to that friend. By default it has my real first and last name. A couple of times I wasn't paying attention and kept hitting "Next." Now I'm more careful and make sure to replace my real name with my screen name. Can't remember if you get to choose how to identify yourself when someone adds you as a friend.

When you have you messager up, click on messager,go down to My Contact Detail. Change you nickname, its what shows on your messager.
