How can I send someone a sms from messenger?

Sending SMS messages from yahoo to Cell Phone? Why wont this work?

I have verizon wireless just to let you know. Well on the yahoo messenger, you can send a SMS message (you know where you can send a "txt" message to a persons phone through the messenger...) Ok, so for someone reason this particular person can not send me a SMS to my phone from yahoo messenger. Well it can't be the fact that yahoo does not "associate" with verizon bc i logged onto MY yahoo messenger and sent a SMS message to MY phone, and it worked just fine, I even replied to it and it went through back to the messenger too... I don't understand this, why cant someone else send me a SMS from THEIR yahoo messenger but I can send one from MY yahoo messenger to MY phone? It doesn't make since, does anyone know how to fix this?
Answer:

try replying to one of the message send by your friend.because for every 3 msg send from the messenger U have to reply to it.
