Why does my messenger works backwards?

Yahoo mail works fine, but messenger will not connect. Ideas why not?

  • My yahoo mail account is working fine. But yahoo messenger will not connect. I have uninstalled and reinstalled several times with no results. Any ideas on how to fix this would be appreciated.

    try changing your connection set up Open messenger contact list clic messenger then find preferences then connection Try choosing the no proxy one instead of proxy firewall

I had the same problem..I just got a new comp and it wouldn't let me connect...I read the answers of people with the same problem and everyone says the same thing...turn off fire wall..so I did it and nothing...I Just figured out that I had more then one fire wall...there was the main one in windows but I have mcafee as well so I went in mcafee, clicked "Internet applications" and there it was "yahoo messenger BLOCKED". as soon as I highlighted it and clicked "allow full access" messenger connected 2 seconds later. trust me find the fire wall that is blocking it.

Are you are a school or buisness network that requires a proxy? You may have to add it in messenger setup.
