How secure is yahoo messenger cam?

Yahoo messenger web cam?

  • For some reason the Yahoo Messenger web cam is extremely slow I'm only getting 3 fps, I'm using a Logitech® Webcam Pro 9000 and a 10mb internet with a pretty decent gaming computer so I know I have a pretty good setup to use it. I can easily get 30fps out of it using Skype or MSN cam but for some reason on Yahoo it has extremely low FPS and I hate watching my self skip around and so does everyone else, and I have select people on Yahoo that aren't going to switch to a different program just to get a better view so if anyone knows how to fix this then I would gladly appreciate it, I have also tried Yahoo 10, 9 and 8 and it still was about the same.

As you say you have a pretty good set up and you should be able to improve on 3fps - even that is good for some Askers and they would be happy to achieve that. If you do not use IE as your default browser make sure you do not neglect it - IE is used throughout Messenger linking between your browser and Yahoo Messenger 1) As a Logitech user make sure you have the latest Directx version 2) Make sure you have the latest support software for Internet Explorer Flashplayer and Shockwaveplayer. Use the links on this page http://help.yahoo.com/l/us/yahoo/messenger/messenger10/notices/mstabuguqscripterror.html 3) Download the latest Yahoo webcam control by visiting this page with Internet Explorer http://help.yahoo.com/l/us/yahoo/messenger/messenger10/webcam/mstacamtest.html 4) Check your settings INTERNET CONNECTION Webcam connected Open messenger - on top toolbar. Left click ( > ) Messenger > Preferences > Connection - Select 'no proxies' or 'connect direct to the internet' depending on the version of messenger you have make sure your internet connection and country are correct in the lower two boxes > Apply > OK TESTING > Messenger > My webcam - the warning panel will launch, click 'OK' and your webcam will start. SET WEBCAM DEFAULT With webcam still running > Messenger > Preferences > Webcam Broadcast > Camera Source - set your webcam as default using dropbox. > Camera Settings - adjust settings to suit. > Apply > OK Take a note of any additional software, if you have multiple choice for Camera Source, you may wish to uninstall any redundant webcam software later to prevent conflicts 5) The Yahoo servers are probably the bottleneck If you and your contact broadcast the 'small image' option from the 'Webcam' menu on the top of your image frames. - its like sending a large photo by email - its quicker if you cut the size down you can zoom up to 200% from the same menu when the webcam picture comes through This will normally double the fps Hope you find something here to help - appreciate any feedback that may be helpful to others and your final fps - I think you may get 5 or 6 ??
