Why do I get disconnected from chat?

I always get a notice that I will be disconnected from chat ... why?

  • The notice tells me that I am signed onto Chat from another computer ... I only have one though.

    Since Messenger Version 9 was introduced, Yahoo has prevented us from having 2 Instant Messaging capable programs open and active at the same time. For example, Yahoo Messenger with Yahoo Mail or Yahoo Webmessenger, your mobile phone, Ipod, or other computers etc. etc. Yahoo classifies all these programs as "Different devices or locations". Navigating from one to the other will close one program and you may get the notification message you refer to. Note. Hitting the X on the Contacts page in Yahoo Messenger does not sign you out of Yahoo Messenger (unless you made that setting in 'General'. it merely closes the contacts page. Like WLM you have to close the program by right-clicking the icon in the system tray and selecting 'Exit' You can have Yahoo Mail and Messenger ( or any other program ) open at the same time as long as your status is "Offline" in Yahoo Mail. Use the drop-box next to your name and "Sign out of chat" Your online contacts will vacate the inbox until you make yourself "Available" again If you suspect your account is being hacked :- Close down all Yahoo programs and enter your user name in this software and hit 'GO' http://detectinvisible.com/

Check with your internet proxy setting if the message is just you are disconnected from chat.. If it says you have logged in somewhere, beware some1 might have known abt u r password and using your ID.. if you feel more confident that it was u alone using it... clear your temp internet files and dont forget to use an antivirus scan disconnect your internet and scan all your computer.... who knows a spyware might be in ur system without ur knowledge..

You are probably disconnecting from Yahoo Messenger because you are going to your mailbox and you are signing into Mail Chat automatically. Besides your user-name, you should see an option, "Available". Click on it and change your status to "Sign out of Chat". You will then be able to log back into IM and stay logged in. You cannot be signed into both IM and Mail Chat at the same time. This notice is the number one question that has been asked on Yahoo! Answers ever since Yahoo introduced the new chat feature of Yahoo! Mail. You cannot be signed into any 2 yahoo chat programs with the same Yahoo! ID at the same time. This may include Yahoo!
