Msn messenger?

can anyone help me with my msn messenger? For some reason when i click on it on my desktop, it wont open. It used to open automatically but now wont and when i click on the icon, it wont open either. I've tried deleting it altogether from my desktop and downloading it again but when i try to download it, a message comes up saying unable to complete the installing of messenger. Does anyone have any ideas why this is happening and what i can do? Just to note, when i delete the old messenger a message comes up saying it will only delete the icon not uninstall messenger. If anyone could talk me through it step by step, i would be so grateful.
Answer:

you have to delete it from the computer, not only the desktop. to do this go to start> control panel> add or remove programs> then remove msn messenger, follow the instructions and then download the new msn. good luck!!! :)

you have to change your settings so that comes up automatically by clicking on the tab tools and then options, go to general and check the box that has that as a setting you have to uninstall it by going to pragrams and uninstalling it all and make sure that it is not running it does not reinstall because its already installed just uninstall it and then reinstall it and you will be good
