Why wont my phone the samsung messager II send pictures?

alright i just got this brand new phone today and it wont send or even receive pictures. when i get a picture it will have a connection" but wont do anything i waited until something would happen and it went away same with sending one too. tell me what im doing wrong because honestly its not that hard to figure out plus i tried reading the manual and don't say anything about sending pictures. my phone provider is cricket too
