How can I be able to see instant messages?

I need to know how to recieve Instant Messages.I can send them but can not see them or the Instant messages?

I can send a instant message and see wht im typing but when i hit enter it wont show up in the box along wit the persons response

If i were you i would uninstall and then reinstall whatever Instant messanger you're using.
