How do I download Yahoo Messenger 10 with Mozilla Firefox?
-
I have Firefox as my default browser and no longer have IE. Yahoo Messenger works fine on IE because I have used it before on that. I have quit using IE to due to several errors. Anyways, I deleted it and uninstalled it. Then my messenger wouldn't work. So, I uninstalled Yahoo Messenger. Now, I have Firefox and Yahoo Messenger won't download. It gives me an error message that says something about my firewall. Will Yahoo Messenger not work with Firefox or something? Please help. Thanks to anyone who can help.

Answer:
Yahoo Messenger is interlinked with Internet Explorer and you need IE and the IE support software loaded - Flashplayer and Shockwaveplayer (both for IE) You will also need Sun Java Runtime Environment no matter what browser you are using Incidentally I have Firefox as my default browser and do not use IE directly. When I run ccleaner I appreciate how much work IE is doing in the background My advice would be to download IE 8 and the support software for IE- Use the links on this page to help http://help.yahoo.com/l/us/yahoo/messenger/messenger10/notices/mstabuguqscripterror.html You should not have to adjust your firewall settings to download Messenger You need the following OS to support Messenger Windows 2000 / XP / 2003 / Vista / XP64 / Vista64 / Windows7 If that is not an issue read on. Make sure your IE is up to date - even if you run another browser as default. IE is interlinked with Yahoo Messenger You can use an update checker for this and it will also check the support software needed to run Messenger - Flashplayer (IE) Shockwaveplayer(IE) and Java http://www.filehippo.com/updatechecker/ If you use another browser -check that IE is not set to 'Work Offline' under 'Tools' and has a red X through globe The problem is probably due to a mal-function of the uninstall software. The Yahoo Messenger uninstall software is notorious for leaving files and fragments behind creating conflicts with the incoming software Close all programs when uninstalling / downloading and uploading. If you tried to uninstall the old Yahoo Messenger program from the Control Panel and failed to back it up with a visit to the 'C' drive, you may have old software conflicting with the incoming software trying to share the same folder. If you have Vista the whole Messenger folder should have been removed during the uninstall. Check Start > Computer >> Local drive (C) >> Program Files >> Yahoo >> Messenger. - The Messenger folder should have been deleted and not seen. If the Messenger folder is still visible - delete it. If you have a pre-Vista OS, the Messenger folder remains, and inside, only one sub-folder should be seen. This is the 'Profile' folder and contains all the message history. All other software should have been deleted. Manually delete any other folders and files before moving on If you have Vista you may be denied being able to delete folders - in this case you will have to disable the 'User Account Control' Start > Control Panel (Home) > User Accounts and Family Safety > Add or remove user accounts > Continue > Go to the main User Account Page > Turn User Account Control On or Off > Continue > Uncheck control box > OK Download 'ccleaner' and use it daily. Run it through a couple of times, using the factory settings and the 'Run Cleaner' control until 0 bytes are seen to be cleaned following a scan Run the 'Registry' from the left hand toolbar but 'Save' any changes after opting to 'repair' errors.Never make changes to your Registry without saving the information. http://www.filehippo.com/download_ccleaner/ Re-start your computer Download Yahoo Messenger from here. http://www.filehippo.com/download_yahoo_messenger/

Yahoo Messenger is a stand alone program and its got nothing to do with what ever browser you are using. Download Yahoo Messenger. Install in your computer then click the firewall icon at the bottom right of your computer screen and find the option for application access. Most likely, your firewall block Yahoo Messenger as a potential security risk. Just look for Yahoo Messenger in the firewall option and click grant or allow access to network/internet. (I don't know what firewall program you are using so I don't the settings). Do you know how to modify certain firewall settings cause even if you uninstall Internet explorer, other program use by Internet Explorer (flash player) should still be in your system. They are there until you uninstall them. Incidentally, those program(s) are use also by Google Chrome, Firefox, Cometbird, Opera, and a dozen other browsers and since you don't seem to have any problem with Firefox, those ancillary program are still in your system. If you know someone who knows how to modify firewall setting, I think you should ask them for help. If you firefox says "firewall" then check the firewall first.
