How come when I click links on Yahoo Messenger nothing happens?

Could it be that IE won't recognize the command to open? I have tried uninstalling and installing messenger again and nothing seems to work. I tried it with Firefox and nothing. I even made sure my PC was free of anything Yahoo before reinstalling and it's still the same. Another problem I'm having is the IM sounds on it. Even though the preferences is set to play sounds when I exchange IMs with others it won't make a sound. Anyone else having these problems?

How good you checked that nothing was left behind when reinstalling? Like this? 1.Remove all Yahoo programs (toolbare, Extras etc) from Control Panel >> Add/remove programs 2.Manually delete folder C:/Program Files/Yahoo 3.Delete two following registry keys (be extremely careful while making changes to PCs registry. Deleting incorrect keys can possible cause whole PC to stop working !!!) a.Click: START >> RUN b.In RUN type: regedit c.In new window by extending tree find two following keys: HKCU/Software/Yahoo HKLM/Software/Yahoo d.Right click name of each key and select export (this will create back up of deleted keys just in case) e.Specify location of some folder you want to export keys to (you can also make new one by right clicking on unused part of PC screen and selecting New >> Folder) f.After exporting of both keys is completed right click them and delete them both. g.Should need arise you can restore deleted keys by clicking “File >> Import” in Registry Editor window 4.Once all done restart PC
