How to install messenger 8.0?

Yahoo Messenger 8.0 installation stops at 95%?

  • I have Windows XP, I have had earlier Messenger versions working fine with this laptop, now I can't install any of them. Tried uninstalling and reinstalling. This direct link http://download.yahoo.com/dl/msgr8/us/ymsgr800_682_us.exe stops at "Updating System Configuration, Please Wait...". I am still waiting and Windows Task Manager shows a process GLB305.tmp (or similar) that takes 60-80% of CPU. Terminating that process is the only way to end the installation. After terminating I have shortcut in Start menu but messenger won't start. Could it be problem with Adobe Flash Player 9 ActiveX?

    hey :) thats quite an old version your trying to install... wondering if you might be better off with the latest version released today... v8.0.0.716, direct download location... http://download.yahoo.com/dl/msgr8/us/ymsgr800_716_us.exe if v8.0.0.682 partly installed, you may need to look at uninstalling that version if possible, clean out your temp directory, next, then start the install of v8.0.0.716 flash and activex are both required to run v8, you can get additional settings and port information from http://www.wackyb.co.nz/Yahoo!_Messenger_v8_Settings%2C_Ports_etc/ best of luck :) swing by our forum (link in the source below) if you need more information or a hand :)

Try saving the download to your desktop, instead of selecting run. Download the newest version from http://messenger.yahoo.com/ Close all browser windows, click on the YM8 icon on desktop and select Save. You can also try selecting custom install. Then you can decide what you download into your pc.
