How to connect my web camera to yahoo messenger?

When I click the "camera source" for my creative model web cam, it is grayed out. What should I do?

  • I called "Creative" company and they recommended using Yahoo messenger as the media to do web cam. I tested the camera after loading it with my Windows Vista and it works on my computer. Now I am trying to connect with a distant relative via YM. After reading some of the other articles on this issue, I first tried to add my relative as a Windows Live contact friend. I did not see the webcam option on top of the window as per one of the answers. I see "available" and then right-clicked to look at "settings." All appears to be OK. I even tried to add my Yahoo ID as a friend to see if the webcam icon would appear on the window but it did not. So, I tried to go into the YM user preferences to add the webcam per another answer, but it is grayed out. I can go into YM preferences and select "my webcam" which brings up my camera and it works. But it doesn't work in Yahoo messenger when I add friends for some reason. Any help would be appreciated.
