Why can't I install Yahoo! Messenger?

  • Why, when I try to install yahoo messenger, does it tell me "Yahoo! Messenger is unable to download files needed for installation. Please check firewall settings and retry installation."? I have windows vista and am thinking that may have something to do with it since I've checked everything on my firewall, made yahoo messenger an exception, even turned off my firewall briefly to try installation, basically everything, and yet I keep reaching the same roadblock. I've tried installing different versions of messenger and each ended up the same way. I've been using messenger for over 5 years and i decided to reinstall when i was having some sign-in difficulties, so please someone help me out here.

  • Answer:

Do a disk clean up first. "START", then "ALL PROGRAMS", then "ACCESSORIES", then "SYSTEM TOOLS", then "DISK CLEAN UP". When it comes up click on "MY FILES ONLY", then "OK", it will calculate space and then ask you to delete the already checked files to be cleaned out. The boxes will already be checked as to what is being cleaned for you. When it's done restart it. Go to your Control Panel, then Programs and Features, make sure you don't already a copy of Messenger installed in there and if you do uninstall it. Restart your PC if you uninstalled it. If you use Yahoo for your homepage go to "EVERYTHING YAHOO" in the menu and click on "MESSENGER" and it will bring you to the page to install Yahoo Messenger 10. Try downloading it from there. If you had contacts before you may get them back if it works. Also, add Yahoo.com to your trusted sites (if you haven't already) in Internet Options and restart your PC. Below is what I copied and pasted from Yahoo Help...........I would try a disk clean-up first though. Error Downloading Yahoo!
