Having problems in logging into yahoo?

If I was having problems logging into Yahoo Messenger would that affect my Mail Box for my e-mail?

The reason I am asking the above question is because I have been constanly getting a pop up box when I try to log into Yahoo messenger saying New User, Sign In Problems, Try Again. And I have not been getting my number of new e-mails in My Mail Box on my Yahoo home page. I actually have to click into the Mail to get my new e-mails.

My question is, can you go to www.yahoo.com and sign in on their web page, without getting into messenger? I mean will it let you sign in? If it does, I would go to "my account" and change your password, then go back and sign in messenger. Could be someone had your password.
