Answer:
To uninstall go to Add/Remove programs and remove. Start, Control Panel, Add/Remove Programs, Yahoo! Messenger If that doesn’t work, go to C:\Program Files\Yahoo! to remove. To download Yahoo Messenger version 7, go to: http://www.brothersoft.com/internet/chat/yahoo_messenger_download_43827.html I downloaded 7 and it works great! To download Yahoo Messenger version 7.5, go to: http://www.filehippo.com/download_yahoo_messenger/?627 Or you can download any version of Yahoo Messenger at: http://www.oldapps.com/yahoo_messenger.htm If your popup blocker doesn’t allow it to download, hold down “Ctrl” while you click on download. After you download the messenger you can retrieve all of your contacts by going into your contacts and importing contacts. It will guide you through from there.

could be caused by a couple of issues... if Yahoo Messenger does in fact quit unexpectidly then you'll need to address (and provide a little more information :) if yahoo messenger logs you out perfectly and only closes when you want it to then it sounds like one of your plugins is corrupt in some way or there was a failed installation. if a plugin spits the dummy yahoo messenger will disable all plugins... your best bet is to wade your way through the error, can't recall the exact message it generates but click on the OK or similar button, continue as you normally would when starting yahoo messenger, now... open an IM session with a friend, click on the green puzzle piece icon at the top of the window, click on the My Plugins tab if you want to reinstall them at a later stage write down the names of the plugins you have installed click on a plugin so it highlights (generally turns blue) and to the right of it click on the little trash can icon to remove it, do this for each plugin installed. log out of yahoo messenger... and Exit the program fire up yahoo messenger again, log back in, if you see the same error check out your tab plugins, these sit directly below your friends list... click on Close for each open (off the arrow icon) now click on the little puzzle icon Plug-ins directly above where you tab plugins sit, this will open a new window, as above click on the plugin to select, then click the little trash can icon to the right... sign out of yahoo messenger, exit the program.. sign back in and see if it makes any difference if you still get the safe mode prompt double check all the plugins have been removed, if it still persists you might be facing an actual Yahoo Messenger v8 issue rather than a Plugin issue which is causing Yahoo Messenger to terminate by itself.. eg a utility that isn't compatible with yahoo messenger an awful lot of ppl are having issues with version 8, if the problem persists for you and your tired of the problems (which can be awfully frustrating) you might want to consider returing to v7.5 until some of the problems have been resolved... it's often best to download the last release from previous version as it avoids prior issues since corrected... there are other versions available in the 7.5 range but below is the last release... v7.5.0.819 (for Windows 98 / 2000 / ME / XP) released 16 June 06 still available for download directly from Yahoo's servers, you can grab it from... http://download.yahoo.com/dl/msgr75/us/ymsgr750_819_us.exe
