My web cam worked with the old yahoo messenger,but with this new messenger it doesn't,can anyone help me?

my web cam does'nt work with messenger (version 8.1)when i try and use the cam,i lose messenger (messenger closes down)

My cam when used with yahoo messenger always freezes up the PC, try unplugging the cam, restart the pc, plug the cam in and start messenger
