How do I get rid of Yahoo Messenger pop ups? I have already downloaded the new messenger but still get pop up?

I did that but I still keep getting the pop ups-more frequently actually-about downloading the new Yahoo Messenger. I have tried calling Yahoo help-very frustrating-on the phone for 45 minutes with people who don't speak English as their first language and couldn't help me-but know how to apologize profusely! I tried the online chat and they had no clue either. How do I get rid of these pop ups-please don't tell me to go to Yahoo Help online-it was a total waste of time for me.

  What version of Yahoo Messenger did you update to? The latest is 9.0.0.2162. Yahoo is retiring 6.0-7.5. If you downloaded 9.0 already then you should uinstall it completely (see below) and then reboot. And then download it again. It also would be helpful to know what operating system you are using (xp, Windows 2000 etc). ============= These instructions are for XP users but you can probablly find alternative paths for older Operating Systems to accomplish the same thing. COMPLETE UNINSTALL OF YAHOO MESSENGER I would suggest uninstalling yahoo messenger through add/remove programs. Reboot your computer (important!). If you want to do a total clean uninstall of Yahoo Messenger then also navigate to Program Files on your hard drive and delete the Messenger folder inside of the Yahoo Folder. Follow this path (XP): My Computer>>C: drive>>Program Files>>Yahoo>>Messenger If you have a trusted registry scanner use it now. If you do not have a trusted registry scanner that you are familiar with than skip this step because you can mess things up if you do not know what you are doing. I personally use CCleaner but then I have been using it for years and know how to use the Registry scanner portion safely. Using any of these types of programs is use at your own risk. Make sure you know how to create a system restore point and backup any of the Registry files it changes.
