Are you using the Beta version? The new one? I had this exact same problem so I uninstalled it and went back to version 7.5... now everything's fine. Good luck!

this is possible in new-beta version of yahoo messenger.in this even u can do this u can appear offline to that person X and can choose not to chat with that person. if that person is very irritating u can use this in yahoo.
