i have this problem too. clear the cache of yahoo messenger , re-install , install older and newest version of yahoo messenger, clean registry , test in the another computer , use a another account ,but don't solve problem .. just install trillian and sing in yahoo account with that. then you can change display picture with trillian without problem, and then you can sign in with yahoo messenger. sry for my english.
