Why can't I get the Yahoo Messenger 8.1 to download?

I cant get my yahoo messenger to open. I can't even download the newer version.?

    You may want to go in and uninstall the whole messenger. Sounds like when you went to the new version, you didnt uninstall the older version. Go to Add/Remove Programs and uninstall. If its your popup blocker not allowing it to open, hold down "Ctrl" and it will allow you to run the application. You could consider uninstall your current Yahoo! Messeneger and download from this link @ http://www.filehippo.com/download_yahoo_messenger/. The latest version is Yahoo! Messenger 8.0.0.716. There is a list of previous versions on the right panel for you to select.

I've got the same problem. I had to go to OldApps.com and install an older version of yahoo messenger. I cannot get 8.0 at all, won't even download.

it's a really common issue if you're using the installer method where you download the wee file (approx 300-400kb) first, then the bulk of it via their installer. what works for others in your situation is if you directly download the entire .exe file (10mb) and install that way instead. you can get the latest direct download locations to the files on Yahoo!'s servers from http://www.wackyb.co.nz/Current_Yahoo!_Messenger_Versions/ or if you just want the latest v8 (8.0.0.716)you can grab it from... http://download.yahoo.com/dl/msgr8/us/ymsgr800_716_us.exe if v8 fails and you wish to return to a previous version until the issues you face are resolved it's often best to download the last release from previous versions as it avoids prior issues since corrected... there are other versions available but below is the last for each version range... v7.5.0.819 (for Windows 98 / 2000 / ME / XP) released 16 June 06 still available for download directly from Yahoo's servers, you can grab it from... http://download.yahoo.com/dl/msgr75/us/ymsgr750_819_us.exe if you're after v7.... 7.0.2.120 (for Windows 98 / 2000 / ME / XP) 23 December 05 still available for download directly from Yahoo's servers, you can grab it from... http://us.dl1.yimg.com/download.yahoo.com/dl/msgr7/us/ymsgr702_120_us.exe
