Why does yahoo messenger not work on my computer?

  • I have windows vista and I have installed yahoo messenger 9 on my computer, but it will not open I get a message stating that yahoo messenger has stopped working. Then when I close the error box it restarts my computer. But first I get a blue screen that start dumping memory (I think it is memory) Anyways anyone else have this problem? If so , how did you fix it. I have un-installed and reinstalled messenger several times in the past week. Please help! All my family are out of state and I use messenger to chat with them . Brenda

    It sounds to me like your firewall is overly protective. Go into settings for your firewall and make and exception for yahoo messenger. Also you can adjust the settings in YM itself to work without proxies and that usually works.

Its not the software, i guess. The blue screen is either a problem in the OS or hardware. But the dumping of physical memory (depending on the message displayed) - are commonly hardware problem. BUT!!! make sure to run some tests first with other programs before you decide that it may be hardware problem...

You may need to uninstall messenger 9 andinstalll the newest one. or you may want to check your firewallprotectionn to see what all is being blocked.

Right click on your yahoo messenger icon that is on your desktop and choose to run as administrator. It worked for me when I was experiencing the same problem.

The first thing you need to do is make sure you have the latest Macromedia Flash Player installed. If you don't have the flash player installed messenger will not open and crash before you are able to sign in. Please note: Use Internet Explorer to install the player. You can get the latest Flash player, by clicking here. >> http://www.adobe.com/shockwave/download/download.cgi?P1_Prod_Version=ShockwaveFlash and also Install the latest Java here >>> http://www.java.com/en/download/index.jsp Now uninstall 9.0 because it is still full of bugs and does not work that good on a Vista PC from my experience. Go here and get 8.1 instead >> http://www.freecreed.com/ymsgr-archive.html I do recommend you get the 8.1.0.421 version as it is the most stable a bug free version of messenger !! When you download it just save it to your desktop and then run the installer from there. Since you are on Vista you will need to Right click on it(the installer you just downloaded) then click "Run as Administrator" to get it to install correctly. Something else I am going to highly recommend is that you get a program called CCleaner. Go here and read what it does then donwload it and install it and run it!!
