Why isn't the text displayed in my Yahoo IM chat window?

Why are IM messages with Yahoo IM 10 blank?

  • What happens is this: When using Yahoo IM v10 on my laptop, messages (as i type them) are visible. Pressing send seems to send them as others report receiving them, but both sent and received messages appear blank in my chat window. Offline messages seem to be received, but the Offline messages window is also blank- no text or user information is shown. When others send me messages, I can see the little popup window (lower right hand corner) and see the text, but when the chat window is opened, it is blank. Interestingly, when i use the chat via Yahoo.com i.e. logged in to check mail and using the web chat on my profile page, that works fine and the text is visible. What I have done/tried is: Ensure the font is not set to white, uninstall/reinstall Yahoo IM (v10) as well as Java (tried both v 9 and 10),uninstall/reinstall IE, upgraded IE to v8, made all necessary scripting changes in IE settings as suggested by others. Run countless virus scans with various (and updated) products which all turn up negative results (no virus found). Run the script registering fixes suggested by others, tried to copy/paste the blank messages to a text file - but of course, nothing is copied and the paste is empty. I have gone through the registry and deleted entries fro Yahoo as well as associated folders/files to ensure a "yahoo free" environment before re installation of Yahaoo IM. What I know is: this is not related to carriers/cell phone use ect. because 1) I am not using one and 2) offline messages are not working as well (even from non cell senders). No changes to my fire wall have been made. It is not being blocked by my ISP. It WAS working with IE 8, Java 10 and IM 10, then just one day it stopped displaying message text. No changes to system or software prior. My thought is perhaps a dll or other dependent file is corrupt, but reinstalling the service pack for XP and software (Yahoo IM, Java, IE, not the OS) did nothing. I am running out of ideas! Thanks to any fresh ideas or fixes that you may have!

Listen this is not an answer but I have reported the issue to Yahoo via messenger I have the same problem and I would just use Yahoo on my blackberry but it doesn't include other services such as MSN when connecting via the BIS, I have reinstalled and cleared my cache, tried a different version (downgraded to 10) and restarted, nothing seems to work :( My theory so far is that the 11 beta version messes up yahoo and downgrading does not resolve the issue. Have you tried this before? I am curious? the beta version? ------- NEW EDIT : Thanks for your reponse, so I completed all the steps and reported to Yahoo via the following link. http://help.yahoo.com/l/us/yahoo/messenger/messenger10/help10.html Troubleshooting steps: http://help.yahoo.com/kb/index?page=content&y=PROD_MSNG_MSNG10&id=DOC249&impressions=false Will report back once I have my issue resolved or if following the steps worked. Tried every step now... and reinstalled java, the same. Although couldn't do anything with scripting 5.7 because there are no documents pointing that it is included in the Windows 7 Architecture from the downloads area of Microsoft :) Still waiting to hear back from Yahoo.
