How can you look up old IM conversations?

How do I fix missing / incomplete IM history issue?

  • Hi, I have IM version 11.5.0.155-us. I use IM at the workplace, and I frequently need to go back and look at old IM's. However, I am running into lots of issues where my IM history isn't saved. I can go back into the IM history and see the correct conversation on a certain day, except the conversation will cut off after a few lines - I KNOW there was more written on that day, at that time. I have checked the surrounding conversations, and they are never what I need, either. There are lines of conversations missing! Has anyone else run into this problem of incomplete IM history? Not all the history is missing, just bits and pieces. Also, in past versions of IM, the IM history was automatically saved to a .txt file. I would LOVE to have a file like that again - where the history is stored on MY computer, not someplace off on the internet. I know Yahoo Messenger still lets you save IM's to .txt files, but it seems like you have to do it one by one, by the individual IM. Is there a way to download the ENTIRE IM history onto my computer? I'd appreciate any help, thank you!

  • Answer:

Your messenger files will only be on the computer where your messenger is. It doesn't matter that it's under your account or any of that. The very nature of messenger's is that they only serve one person and one computer. If you want to make copies of those files and send them to a different computer, you may, but they can only be accessed from one. As for only seeing a few lines of convo, I think you may be talking about the preview look, but once you click on that conversation, you'll see that all of it's there. ~m~

I am having the same problem! All the conversations are there, but many of them are cut and parts of them are missing! Sorry for not giving you any solution but just sharing the same problem... I have just posted a question on the same problem, title: "Do you also experience that Yahoo does not save the messenger conversation history completely?" Just if you want to check for more answers... And from now on I will always save the actual conversation as a text file (Conversation=>Save as)... Good luck!
