Where are the sounds in Yahoo Messenger 8.1?

My sounds for yahoo messenger no longer work after installing 8.0. Sounds in everthing else work fine.?

  • When I receive and send messages with Yahoo Messenger 8.0 (build 8.0.0.701) (My Yahoo Module 8.0.0.1) I do not hear the appropriates sounds. Immediately after installing everything worked fine. A few days after the upgrade (from the beta to the release version) I was no longer able to hear the sounds. All I get for the audio sounds is a very low "swish" sound. My audio in ALL OTHER PROGRAMS on my computer works fine, so I am certain it is not a sound card and/or driver problem. I have tried uninstalling and reinstalling---No go there either. I tried copying the sound files from machine on which they work to the machine where they do not work. No help there! Does anyone have any assistance they can offer? I tried searching the web and Yahoo itself and have found zilch in the way of an answer, but I have found many others having the same problem.

i am having this exact same problem and its not the pc. What i did was ....in the IM toolbar at the top of the window click on "messenger"...."preferences"......"alert… and sounds"...then click the small browse box. All the wav files can be checked but mine are all just awful ...nothing like previous versions.....so i clicked on the "ring tones "folder and changed my alerts to 1 of them...Ps: i tryed the link that DavC provided and could not get it to work...in fact it crashed my system....maybe will do it again later

Yahoo! updated the sounds in 8.0 (but they didn't change the names of the sound files). They are the same sounds used in Mac Messenger. If you want the old ones you can get them from here: http://www.wackyb.co.nz/yh/v8/sounds/800683sounds.zip FWIW, I like the newer sounds; I think they sound cleaner and more subtle.

Hey man the yahoo messenger 8 not beta is not very nice. You should uninstall it an take the older yahoo messenger because at this this messenger 8 if you have selected the window you don't hear a sound when a friend writes to you i know and isn't nice try beta 8, 7.5 or 7.
