Why yahoo messenger will not be updated automatically?

Will downloading updated yahoo messenger on laptop alter older version on my pc?

  • I want to install yahoo messenger on my laptop and it defaults to an updated, newer version than is on my desktop. Will this affect my account with yahoo on my older version on my desk top and can I login and view my messenger and mail under the same name from each pc having different versions of messenger?

    Unless yahoo is forcing you to update before usage, you can use an older version of yahoo on a different computer. For example, you can have the 4.8 version on laptop and the 3.0 version on the desktop. Your account will be the same, the address book also. The only thing chaning on your laptop is the version of yahoo along with some features possibly. Your desktop will not be auto updated until you choose to do so there.

if you are going to download the new version of yahoo messenger, the old version will automatically be overlapped and be changed to the new version, but you don't have to worry because all your contacts will still be there intact. only the features of the messenger is changed. <>using the new version esp the 8.1ver is a must compared to lower versions.

yup, i just did that the other day and it DOES update it. but you will still have all your contacts and all. its just a newer version with some added stuff. no biggie
