Why does my messenger works backwards?

Why can't I access messenger with the username and password that works for my account?

  • I have a new computer and downloaded messenger. I am not able to sign in - it just hangs - I did try changing my passsword. That went fine - It works with my yahoo mail account but the messenger still hangs. What to do?

    Feed it some cookies. Most sign in problems can be cured by cleaning up internet browsers and re-setting cookies Try this. Download ccleaner and give it a couple of runs include 'registry' from left hand toolbar. Do not be alarmed by the amount of files you have to delete - especially if you do not clean out your browser on a daily basis. http://www.filehippo.com/download_ccleaner/ Make sure 'caps lock' is not applied and type your password where you can read it, to ensure you have no sticky letters or numbers transposed. Set your status to "offline" in yahoo MAIL by using the dropbox next to your name. This will allow you to have mail and messenger open at the same time. the messenger has a problem or the server didn't load fully the program. if problem persists, uninstall properly the messenger. get rid of all the components of YM, delete folders and subfolders that contain about YM, delete temporary internet files, cookies and browsing history then restart and reinstall the messenger.

Yahoo started its annual maintenance on June 10. 5% of users are reporting severe disruptions ( can not get into YM) 95% only notice small glitches. You have to wait. It is not your computer. Yahoo Help is swamped with complaints. THe 2008 maintenance lasted 30 days.
