How can I download Yahoo messenger?

How can I download Yahoo Messenger if I have Windows 98? (It syas it's for XP and 2000) :(?

  • My new computer broke so I have got my old computer up and running. (Somewhat) I'd like to download a version of Yahoo Messenger, and I tried to download the one on the "Get Messenger Now" page but it's only for Windows XP and 2000. Is there a way I can download an older version of it? (When I downloaded the one for XP and 200, everything downloaded fine, the toolbar and all the extras and stuff, but the messenger itself didn't. What's up with that?

    If you have Windows 98, you cannot install latest version (7.0) .. however, you can still download and install older versions of Yahoo! Messenger (upto ver 6).. Version 6 can be downloaded frrm http://download.yahoo.com/dl/installs/ymsgr/ymsgrins.exe Version 5.6 can be downloaded from http://download.yahoo.com/dl/installs/ymsgr/ymsgr_1358.exe

Hi there. I had a similar situation recently, but I never knew about the "XP only" for YM, so I DID install the latest 7.5 version on my W98SE - and it worked fine! Only later did I find that in theory it doesn't ! However, assuming that that doesn't work for you, you can get older versions of YM easily here: http://www.freecreed.com/ymsgr-archive.html And while with some older versions you may not be able to use file transfer or "Call" with those on newer versions, other stuff (including Conference, voice chat) should still work fine.
