Why can't I access Yahoo messenger?

I created a new Yahoo account but still cant access Yahoo messenger! WHY?

My NEW Yahoo account only accesses my old Yahoo Messenger. How can I change over to the messenger I just installed

At the top of YM click the Messenger Menu. Choose Sign Out (not Sign Out and Close). Now you will see the Sign In window for Yahoo Messenger. Erase your old Yahoo ID and password from the sign-in window and put in your new Yahoo ID and password. Now sign in to save those changes. You can check Remember My ID and Password as well as Sign me in automatically if you want. Now I am a bit confused about what you mean by you can only access your old yahoo messenger when you installed the new one. You do not need to open a new Yahoo Account with a new Yahoo ID just because you install a new version of Yahoo Messenger.
