How do I set up password for yahoo instant messenger?

  • don't want people to go into my instant messenger, when you click on it----how do I prevent this

    sounds like you have auto login mode in messanger so thus when ya click the icon it logs into messanger and has the name/pass inside of it you can go to main screen in messanger and click on top the word messenger and then sign out and remove the tick that says remember my ID& password and IT SHALL always make you enter your name and pass when you open yahoo but will assure you that nobody else who dont know your name and pass can ever access your messanger :)

wht to prevent? hey its only tht password which u use on yahoomail no one can open ur yahoo messenger

It's only the log-in screen that pops up....nobody can get past that unless they have your password -- and it's the same password that goes along with your Yahoo account. Unless somebody else who uses your computer has your Yahoo account password, they can't use your Messenger and pretend to be you. Of course if they have a Yahoo account too, they can use your Messenger to sign into their own account....but they can't get into yours unless they know your account's password.
