Login functioning with Yahoo messenger but unable to log-in to Yahoo mail using the same credentials?

Hi Find this to be a unique case!!! When my brother logs in to his account in Yahoo messenger then everything is fine. However if he logs in to his account in Yahoo Mail then it give an error message. I tried to reset the password - but tht is also unsuccessful as the details are getting rejected even though his details are correct!!!! If any body has faced similar issues then please let me know wht could be a possible solution for this
