Why can't I join the group I was invited to?

I keep being invited to join a Yahoo group but it is not shown in Yahoo as an active group?

I received an invitation to join a Yahoo group. Somehow whenever I log on to the internet this group’s downloader appears on my desktop. I don’t know of a way to stop it. The virus protection software blocks it saying that it could be malicious software and Yahoo groups does not know of the group. Has this been reported before and what can I do?
Answer:

Personally I won't join them unless I know what the group is all about. If there isn't a welcome message on the group's home page or an explanation with the invitation I delete them. at the present time there seem to be many of these invitations going around. I've been ignoring them but that is up to you.
