How do we re-establish an owner and moderator for a group that has none?
-
The owner/moderator of the "LPNM-discuss" group no longer has the email account he used when he established the group. Consequently, our group no longer has an owner or moderator and is able to accomplish many functions within the group. For example, the group shows a dinner-discussion meeting on the 1st and 3rd Wed of each month. We changed the location over 3 years ago, and we changed it from Wed to Thur over 2 years ago, but we are unable to change it in the calendar module. How do we go about establishing an owner and moderator for our group so we can update thing when appropriate?

Answer:
The current owner or a current moderator with the privilege is the only one that can make someone else a owner or moderator w/all privileges. Since you can't get in contact with them, it's best to start your own group and post a link to it on the old group and invite current members to join. Name the group something similar such as "LPNM-discussions". If the old members searched for the new group, just typing in LPNM would pull it up. Be sure to have at least one moderator with sufficient privileges to maintain the group if something happens to you or your account. Be very cautious in choosing and assigning privileges to this person because he/she could delete the group or demote/remove you from the group if given the power to do so. Good luck in whatever you decide to do.

Unless one of the other members have some of the same privileges the owner and moderator does to try and fix the group calendar and other features the only other thing that can be done is to start another group.

The present owner should be able to sign in from any computer with internet access using his sign-in name and password. Changing service providers does not limit his access to the group. I have Two (2) ISP's, one at home, another at work. I sign in both places. No problem. Once he has accessed the group, then he can make any member the owner or moderater by finding the name on the list of members, clicking "Edit Membership", a new window opens and then he clisks on "Make Owner" or "Make Moderater"
