How does "freecycle work?

How does freecycle work?

  • because i never seem to get a response whether im offering something or asking for something? and how do people choose who gets the item?

  • Answer:

A lot of times, when someone offers something, they get so many responses that they don't bother to respond personally, but will just post that the item is taken or pending pick-up. You are less likely to be chosen to get the item if you're not stating when you'll come and pick it up in your first email, or if you cannot pick it up for a couple days or longer. They usually will give it to whoever is clear and can come soonest. I usually respond immediately, say "I would love to pick up _____ at ___(this time)___" and give a big "thank you" and my name. Sometimes people are too cold or impersonal and the person will opt to give it to someone who seems more appreciative (so a fellow Freecycler told me). About no one responding, well, they may not have been interested. Sometimes it's just something people don't want or need. If you suspect that your emails aren't being posted, you could sign up with another email address and check to make sure they are going out. Oh, and when you put up a "want" email, it is *rare* that someone happens to have it available to give away. That is normal. I've never gotten a response to any of mine and I've only seen one posted where I could actually help the person out. It never hurts to try, but that is normal.
