What exactly are the Yahoo! groups?

What exactly ARE Yahoo Groups? I keep receiving e-mails inviting me to join various groups, but I just ignore ?

    yahoo groups are like clubs where people similar interests can get together to share photos and other info. They have a message board, a links page etc. If you choose to join you can always leave. Personally I won't join them unless I know what the group is all about. If there isn't a welcome message on the group's home page or an explanation with the invitation I delete them. at the present time there seem to be many of these invitations going around. I've been ignoring them but that is up to you.

I don't know either, but i get those emails. it's probably some scam or virus or something. if you want to know i would go through the yahoo link on the home page not through the email

Don't open it!! Ignore it. There are some nasty people who are doing that....who knows what info they may steal from you. We get that in some of the groups I belong to.....they sneak in there.

most of those are spam, more so if you weren't expecting an invite. owners are not suppose to send invites to unknown people, it is a violation of Yahoo's TOS.
