How do I open a .xls file attachment?

"Attachment (not stored)" - can't see my Groups' attachments - how do I fix this?

  • Whenever anyone posts an attachment to a group message (doesn't matter what type) I only see a message that says: Attachment(not stored) File Name.xls Type: application/msexcel I can't access the attachment. Does anyone know how I can fix this so I can access Group message attachments?

  • Answer:

The only way you can view attachments is if you receive individual mail messages. They are not stored on the group site and not sent with daily digest emails. If you're still not getting them, they may be turned off by the owner.

You have to enable the "attachments" in your group settings, in order to copy and paste pics and graphics into the postings. The pics from your computers hard drive will NOT copy & paste permanently or get distributed.. they MUST be pics that are already online, in the public domain in order for them to show up in the email delivery. BE CAREFUL! Lots of pics online are copyright protected, and soem stuff has SPYWARE imbedded into them that you can gunk up your computer with once you copy them!!! If people have a daily digest delivery, the graphics will not show up. I genrally warn people that if that is the case, then they can come to our home site and view the message archive to see the pics sent. As for "attachments" uploaded in your email to send, Yahoo Groups no longer stores attachments in the message archive of the because it takes up too much bandwith and also possible viruses or worms could be stored in them. However, Yahoo email scans attachments as you upload them and before you send them, as do other email services, but I guess it's still a precaution they don't want to be responsible for. However, attachments are distributed to individual email boxes. With the added memory now in the groups, people can upload their pics into the photo albums and modify the size. Back to the graphics... remember.. only pics found online seem to be stored in your group archive... NOT pics from your PC. Yahoo! hasn't archived attachments since 2002. This is a major problem for those who receive Daily Digests. In my group, I request that attachments not be sent, that they are opened and pasted into the email. The only way around this is to request the email originator to send you the email with the attachment. Jayne L.
